Policies - Little Stars on the Lane:
Please note that all of the policies of Little Stars on the Lane are related to each other and as such operate as a body of related policies and not in isolation.
Statement of Purpose and Function of Little Stars on the Lane.
The purpose of our creche is to provide quality early education to children aged 2 to 5 years in the local community. It is a private service and is classified as a full time service under the Child Care Act 1991 (Early Years Services) Regulations 2016. It is open for 50 weeks per year closing for two weeks at Christmas. We can cater for 110 children during sessional hours and 86 children at any one time outside of ECCE hours between six classrooms. We operate ratios according to childcare regulations.
Curriculum Statement:
Our service runs differing curricula depending on the room in which your child is placed.
Naíonra: 8.45 – 12.15 (for full day children, the rest of their day is spent as a normal creche day)
Naíonra an Lána is an Irish speaking room, during ECCE hours, where children are encouraged through the medium of Irish. Children learn through a fun environment and we believe that little by little children come to understand everything that is said to them (passive language learning) and develop some active language while they are with us. We also believe in flexibility of thought and how learning language should not just be about what words we are learning, but also about how other cultures do things. We bring this into our curriculum and thus teach flexibility of thought. We strongly believe that all learning must be fun and our activities must always be child – centred. Our curriculum cherry picks from all approaches to early-years education, including Montessori, High-Scope, Steiner and Play.
English speaking rooms:
We encourage children through every approach to early childhood education. The working language of the creche is English and then the children learn a little French, German, Spanish and Irish every day. This is not a total-immersion setting. The aim is to give children an introduction to languages. It also aims to teach children about customs and norms of many different cultures, giving the children a really strong world view and flexibility of thought. We strongly believe that all learning must be fun and our activities must always be child – centred. Our curriculum cherry picks from all approaches to early-years education, including Montessori, High-Scope, Steiner and Play.
Full day care:
We aim to give each child in our care a varied and engaging curriculum. They can benefit from a range of activities including languages, soft play, ball skills, ballet, baking, outdoor activities, rest time, motor activities to support creative development and activities to develop a sense of self and identity, rooting them firmly within the community in which they exist.
Afterschool hours:
For our school aged child, we will support their development with homework club, with languages, outdoor activities, creative development and motor skill development. They can avail of Ballet Classes (paid separately) and Coding classes (included in their fee). We will also give children ample time to rest, relax and engage in self-directed play after a busy day at school.
